Monika’s story
In February 2016 10 years have passed since I became a foster mother.
Evaluating my abilities I was offered to take a small boy. The only thing I knew was that the boy was prematurely born. When I went to see the baby in hospital I understood how small he was. Born too early, with small weight. As the doctor called him – „a small sugar parcel”. Now he has grown a big boy!
At the Foster Family Society I have been for five years. We are participating in all arranged events and activities . We can get clothing, foodstuffs and we have also received money from the society. The people there are very kind and helpful!
To encourage people to make the decision and take a child into family I advise not to be afraid. Do not be afraid of children who live in children’s homes! Most probably for the child’s health who has lived in a children’s home has not been done anything! People should not be afraid that a child could be ill! Children long for love very much, unfortunately in children’s homes they cannot get it as much as it is necessary because there are too many children and too few workers.
The interview is prepared within the framework of the project „Family Care - Safe Basis for Child Development”. The project is financially supported by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. The program is financed by financial instrument of EEZ and Latvian State.
