New Year event with President of Latvia and First Lady Dace Seisuma

“Latvian people who think about their future should support kids that are left without parental care”, stressed Andris Berziņš, President of Latvia, celebrating our New Year’s Eve Event together with the Latvian foster families and guardians.

n his speech, President Berzins referred to the story shared during the event by its organizers, about beached starfish and a man who moved them back into the water from the beach, inviting people of Latvia to "choose a starfish that has become beached" and to provide care for it. President Bērziņš thanked the foster families and guardians for their work. The politician dedicated several sentences in English to the financial supporters from abroad to express gratitude for their contribution.

In turn, First Lady Dace Seisuma told a fairy-tale parable about growing rosebush plants named after Ieva and Jānis, reminding everyone that the amount of time parents dedicate to their children and the amount of positive words and love they give will influence how the child will grow.

"This is a traditional event, a great festivity for kids who have lost their parents, and for foster parents - a possibility to gets some rest together as well as discuss their problems and share experiences. The daily life of a foster parent is quite often hard, many foster families are poor, and need financial as well as moral and psychological help", Ilze Golvere, Head of the Foster Family Association previously informed the news agency LETA.

Supporters of foster families from Latvia and abroad also took part at the festivity.
