The Nordea Riga Marathon
The marathon has taken place in Riga since 1991, and this year’s multiple distances saw a combined 23,193 participants from 61 countries across the globe.
Thanks to the support of the marathon organizing committee, the Nordea Riga Marathon had for the first time a participating team from the Latvian Foster Families Society. Among the enthusiastic runners we are proud to have had “our very own” - Anastasija, Anna, Katrīna, Diāna, Aiga, Liene, Evelīna, Elīna, Dārta, Una, Artūrs, Niks, Toms, Andrejs, Lauris, Raivis, Toms, Jānis, Lauris, and Dmitrijs.
Every one of our runners has successfully returned to their everyday lives and is ready and eager to run even faster and farther in next year’s event. In total - we ran 121 km!!!
“Even though in the past I had considered participating, this year I ran the race for the firsts time! Taking into consideration the hot sun, baking hot asphalt, and the physical exertion that was experienced for the first few kilometers running at the pace of the massive crowd and not my own – the race atmosphere was super positive, inspiring, uplifting and friendly! I was very encouraged by all the people who cheered us on at the sidelines. At the Freedom Monument, the many participants dressed in folk costumes gave me an extra amount of energy by giving others and myself high fives and encouraging us to run faster. After the race, I felt like I had accomplished a lot and felt very positive about myself. For those who have not yet participated, I encourage them to consider doing so in the future!” Liene
