Projects supported by KIDS FIRST FUND
Thanks to the 000 USD financial support granted by the Kids First Fund, the Latvian Foster Family Society was able to carry out 3 projects: 1) Distribution of Food basket before Midsummer Eve celebration, 2) Project “Children Must Go To School!” 3) Organizing Support groups for foster parents and guardians.
1. The aim of the project was to reduce the risk of poverty in the member families of the Latvian Foster Family Associaion by providing the families with food baskets before Midsummer Eve national celebration “Līgo” that is celebrated during the summer solstice. The project was implemented from May 2013 to June, 2013, at Pernavas street 62.
160 guardian and foster families from different regions of Latvia received food baskets. All goods were purchased considering the principle of economic efficiency as well as what was deemed as appropriate to family needs.
2. The aim of the project was to reduce the risk of poverty in the member families of the Latvian Foster Family Association by providing families with necessary school supplies before the beginning of the school year.
The project was implemented from June 2013 to September, 2013.
During the project, 280 foster family children were provided with school supplies.
The location where the school supplies were distributed: 62 Pernavas street, Riga.
Expenditures were 10 LVL per each set of school supplies.
3.The aim of the activity was to provide psycho-emotional and moral support to foster families and guardians by organizing group and individual therapy.
The program was implemented during the period of 8 months (from May to December). A total of 16 meetings were organized two times a month with the participation of 9 to12 persons.
